M&E Manager

We are seeking an experienced M&E Manager to join a major National Grid substation project in Melksham, Wiltshire.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and coordinating mechanical and electrical activities across the project, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with National Grid standards, project specifications, drawings and programme requirements.
Working closely with site management, engineers, supervisors, subcontractors and the wider project team, you will oversee M&E installation, testing, commissioning and coordination activities within a high-voltage substation environment.

Key Responsibilities
Manage and coordinate all mechanical and electrical activities across the National Grid substation project.
Plan, supervise and monitor M&E installation activities to ensure works are delivered safely and in line with the project programme.
Coordinate M&E works with civil, electrical, commissioning and other site activities.
Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, schematics and construction documentation.
Ensure M&E installations are completed in accordance with approved drawings, National Grid standards and project requirements.
Coordinate the installation, testing and commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems and equipment.
Oversee subcontractors and specialist M&E contractors, ensuring works are completed to the required standards.
Monitor progress, productivity, quality and workmanship across M&E activities.
Liaise with Project Managers, Site Managers, Engineers, Supervisors and National Grid representatives.
Attend site meetings, coordination meetings and progress meetings where required.
Identify and resolve technical, programme and coordination issues affecting M&E works.
Ensure materials, plant, labour and specialist resources are available when required.
Review RAMS, permits and relevant documentation prior to works commencing.
Ensure all M&E activities are carried out in accordance with approved RAMS and safe systems of work.
Support testing, inspection and commissioning activities.
Ensure appropriate inspection and test records are maintained.
Monitor quality and ensure defects or non-conformances are identified and rectified promptly.
Maintain accurate records of works completed, inspections, testing and progress.
Ensure all works comply with National Grid procedures, Health & Safety legislation and company requirements.
Promote a strong safety culture across all M&E activities.
Maintain high standards of housekeeping and site organisation.
Support the successful delivery of the project programme and key milestones.
M&E Scope
The successful candidate should have experience managing or coordinating M&E works within industrial, utilities, energy or substation environments, including where applicable:
- HV Substation M&E installations
- Switchgear and associated systems
- Transformers and transformer auxiliaries
- LVAC and DC systems
- Battery and charger systems
- Control and protection systems
- Electrical distribution systems
- Cable containment and support systems
- Earthing and bonding
- Lighting and small power
- HVAC and ventilation systems
- Mechanical plant and associated services
- Fire detection and protection systems
- Building services
- Telecommunications and auxiliary systems
- Control panels and equipment
- Marshalling kiosks and associated equipment
- Testing and commissioning activities
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience working as an M&E Manager, M&E Site Manager or M&E Supervisor on major infrastructure, utilities, energy or industrial projects.
- Proven experience working within National Grid substations or high-voltage environments.
- Strong understanding of M&E installation, coordination and construction activities.
- Experience managing subcontractors and specialist M&E teams.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing and M&E coordination.
- Experience working to strict Health & Safety, quality and environmental standards.
- Good understanding of RAMS, permits and safe systems of work.
- Experience coordinating M&E works alongside civil and electrical construction activities.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple activities and priorities within a live construction environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to identify and resolve issues efficiently.
- Previous experience on major UK infrastructure projects is highly desirable.

- National Grid Person (NG Person)
- Manual Handling
Candidates must also hold any additional National Grid site competencies, authorisations and certifications applicable to the project.
Ideally applicants will also hold:
- Relevant M&E / Engineering qualification
- SMSTS or equivalent site management qualification
- SSSTS where applicable
- ECS / CSCS Card
- First Aid
- Appropriate National Grid training and competencies
- Relevant mechanical or electrical qualifications
- Appropriate PPE for site attendance
