Mane are on the look for Steel Erectors to work as part of a team on a high rise new build project located in Canary Wharf.
The Steel Erector is responsible for the safe and efficient installation of structural steel components on a high-rise construction project. Working as part of a specialist steel erection team, the role involves erecting beams, columns, bracing, metal decking, and associated structural elements in accordance with engineering drawings, project specifications, and UK health and safety legislation.
The successful candidate must be comfortable working at height, possess excellent awareness of site safety, and work effectively within a fast-paced construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret structural steel drawings and erection plans.
- Erect structural steel frames, beams, columns, trusses, and bracing.
- Align, level, and secure steel members using appropriate lifting and fixing techniques.
- Bolt and prepare connections ready for final tightening or welding where applicable.
- Assist crane operators and appointed persons during lifting operations.
- Attach and remove lifting gear, slings, chains, and tag lines safely.
- Install temporary bracing to maintain structural stability during erection.
- Ensure all work complies with engineering tolerances and quality standards.
- Carry out pre-use inspections of tools, lifting equipment, and access equipment.
- Maintain good housekeeping and keep work areas free from hazards.
- Report defects, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately.
- Work closely with supervisors, crane operators, riggers, and other trades.
- Follow RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements) and permit-to-work systems.
- Participate in toolbox talks, safety briefings, and site inspections.
Health & Safety Responsibilities
- Comply with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and all relevant UK legislation.
- Follow the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM) 2015.
- Wear and maintain mandatory PPE at all times.
- Use fall protection equipment correctly, including harnesses and lanyards.
- Work safely at height in accordance with project procedures.
- Never work beneath suspended loads.
- Stop work immediately if unsafe conditions are identified.
- Participate in emergency rescue procedures for working at height.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience erecting structural steel on commercial or high-rise construction projects.
- Ability to read and understand engineering and fabrication drawings.
- Experience working with mobile and tower cranes.
- Knowledge of steel connection methods and erection sequencing.
- Strong understanding of working-at-height requirements.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Physically fit and capable of manual handling.
- Reliable, punctual, and safety conscious.
Working Hours: 07:30am - 18:00pm (10hrs paid)
