Project Lead Engineer - High Voltage Substations


Location: Brussels, Belgium (with regular site presence)
Contract: Full-time project assignment

The Opportunity


Our client is looking for an experienced Project Lead Engineer - High Voltage Substations to support major energy infrastructure projects across Belgium.
This is an opportunity to join a key player in the European energy sector and contribute to the development of a reliable, sustainable electricity network as part of the ongoing energy transition.
The role sits within the infrastructure projects department and offers the chance to work on complex high-voltage projects across networks ranging from 36kV to 380kV.

The Role


As Project Lead Engineer, you will take responsibility for projects from initial definition through to completion, ensuring successful technical delivery, stakeholder coordination and project performance.
Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting projects throughout their full lifecycle, from concept and design through to execution and close-out.
  • Leading technical studies and supporting engineering activities.
  • Carrying out calculations, developing budgets and monitoring project costs.
  • Creating project schedules and ensuring resources are effectively planned.
  • Preparing tender documentation and supporting procurement activities.
  • Managing and coordinating site execution alongside internal teams, suppliers, contractors and customers.
  • Monitoring project progress and providing clear reporting to stakeholders.
  • Supporting quality, safety and delivery objectives throughout the project lifecycle.


Depending on your experience level, responsibilities may be undertaken independently or with support from experienced project teams.

Requirements


The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical experience.
  • Experience managing engineering projects and/or site delivery.
  • Strong interest in the energy and infrastructure sector.
  • Excellent organisational skills and a strong sense of ownership.
  • The ability to communicate confidently with customers, contractors and technical teams.
  • A collaborative approach with strong problem-solving skills.

Key Skills

  • High-voltage infrastructure experience is advantageous.
  • Strong project management capability.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders.
  • Commercial awareness around budgets, planning and delivery.
  • Strong technical understanding of electrical systems.

Languages

  • Fluent Dutch is required.
  • Knowledge of French is a strong advantage.
  • English proficiency is beneficial.

Location & Working Pattern

  • Based in Brussels.
  • Hybrid working available, with approximately 2 days per week onsite presence required.
  • Applicants must have the right to work in Belgium.
