An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to join a leading engineering and construction organisation delivering complex mechanical construction projects in Sweden.

You will take responsibility for the successful delivery of mechanical projects from initial planning and mobilisation through to construction, testing, commissioning and final handover. Working closely with clients, design teams, commercial departments, subcontractors and site personnel, you will ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the required quality standards.

This role would suit a commercially aware Mechanical Project Manager with a strong background in HVAC, mechanical piping and building services. Experience delivering pharmaceutical, life sciences, data centre or other technically complex projects would be particularly beneficial.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning and Management

  • Lead project handovers from the estimating team to the construction and delivery teams.

  • Develop project execution plans, construction programmes, procurement schedules, resource plans and cost control procedures.

  • Establish project budgets, cash flow forecasts, revenue targets and commercial reporting processes.

  • Coordinate the mobilisation of site teams, subcontractors, labour, materials and site facilities.

  • Work closely with engineering and design teams to resolve technical issues and ensure project requirements are met.

  • Develop project-specific health and safety plans, quality plans and training requirements.

Construction and Site Delivery

  • Manage the day-to-day delivery of mechanical construction activities, including HVAC, mechanical piping and building services installations.

  • Lead and coordinate engineers, supervisors, subcontractors and specialist trades.

  • Ensure works are completed in accordance with approved drawings, technical specifications, contractual requirements and agreed programmes.

  • Monitor labour productivity, resource utilisation, material deliveries and construction progress.

  • Identify and resolve technical challenges, programme risks and potential delays.

  • Maintain high standards of health and safety, environmental compliance and quality throughout the project.

  • Chair regular progress meetings with clients, subcontractors and internal project teams.

  • Provide regular project updates and performance reports to senior management.

Commercial and Client Management

  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors.

  • Monitor project costs, revenue, cash flow and commercial performance against agreed targets.

  • Work with Quantity Surveyors and commercial teams to manage valuations, variations, forecasts and final accounts.

  • Identify commercial risks and opportunities to protect project margins.

  • Maintain accurate project records, site diaries and contractual documentation.

  • Ensure changes to project scope and additional works are appropriately documented and managed.

Testing, Commissioning and Handover

  • Oversee pre-commissioning, testing and commissioning activities in accordance with project specifications and quality plans.

  • Coordinate system completion, inspections, technical documentation and turnover activities.

  • Ensure testing records, certificates and quality documentation are completed accurately and on time.

  • Manage the preparation and handover of operation and maintenance manuals, as-built drawings and final project documentation.

  • Coordinate client demonstrations, final inspections and formal handover.

  • Manage project demobilisation and prepare project close-out reports.

  • Maintain client relationships during warranty periods and support the resolution of outstanding issues.

Requirements

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline. Candidates with a relevant senior trade qualification and substantial project management experience will also be considered.

  • At least 8 years' relevant project management experience within mechanical engineering or construction.

  • A proven track record of delivering mechanical construction projects, ideally within pharmaceutical, life sciences or other complex engineering environments.

  • Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, mechanical piping and building services installations.

  • Experience with pre-commissioning, testing, commissioning and system turnover.

  • Commercial awareness, including budgeting, cost control, forecasting and subcontractor management.

  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and coordinating clients, contractors and suppliers.

  • Strong planning, organisational and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

  • A proactive approach to health and safety, quality assurance and continuous improvement.

Experience with process piping, clean and dirty utilities, cleanroom environments or Building Management Systems (BMS) would be advantageous.
