Building Surveyor / Domestic Energy Assessor

About the Role
We are currently seeking experienced Building Surveyors / Domestic Energy Assessors to support a residential property surveying programme across the Salisbury and Dorset areas.
The successful candidates will be responsible for carrying out detailed property condition surveys, identifying defects, recording findings accurately and providing clear recommendations for remedial works. The role will involve visiting residential properties, including occupied buildings, and producing concise, accurate survey information to support wider asset management, capital planning and compliance requirements.
This is a survey-based opportunity, with payment made at £85 per completed survey, rather than on an hourly basis.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out detailed condition surveys and inspections of residential properties.
Assess the condition of building fabric, identifying defects and areas requiring remedial works.
Record defects accurately using photographs, measurements and clear written descriptions.
Provide practical recommendations for appropriate repair and remedial works.
Complete Domestic Energy Assessments (EPCs) where required.
Maintain accurate survey information and contribute to property asset registers.
Ensure survey data is recorded consistently and to the required standard.
Support the collection of information required for capital planning and statutory compliance.
Interpret drawings and existing property information where required.
Work professionally and respectfully when visiting occupied residential properties.
Maintain a strong focus on health, safety and quality throughout all site activities.
Requirements
Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA) qualification - essential.
Previous experience carrying out residential property inspections, condition surveys or building surveys.
Good knowledge of building construction, building fabric and common property defects.
Understanding of practical repair and maintenance methods.
Competent in taking site measurements, photographs and detailed survey notes.
Strong written communication and report-writing skills.
Ability to interpret drawings and technical information.
Good organisational skills and the ability to manage survey workloads independently.
Professional and confident approach when dealing with occupants and other site stakeholders.
BPSS and DBS clearance will be required as part of the onboarding process.
Desirable
Degree or equivalent qualification in Building Surveying or a related discipline.
Previous experience working on residential housing or property condition survey programmes.
Experience working with asset registers or property management databases.
Working Arrangement & Payment
The hiring office is based in Cardiff, with this requirement specifically focused on surveyors located in or around Salisbury, Dorset and the surrounding areas.
This position is paid on a per-survey basis at £85 for each completed survey, rather than an hourly rate.
The opportunity would suit an experienced surveyor who is comfortable working independently, managing their own diary and completing accurate, high-quality surveys across a defined geographical area.
