We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established and highly respected specialist engineering business for a Shot Blast Operator to join their Sheffield-based production team.

The company provides high-quality surface preparation and protective coating solutions across a range of major sectors including Rail, Highways, Defence, Energy, Structural Steel and Infrastructure. Due to continued growth and investment in their modern manufacturing facility, they are looking to add a reliable and skilled individual to their workshop team.

The Role

As a Shot Blast Operator, you will play a key role in preparing structural steel components ready for painting, galvanising and protective coating applications.

Working within a busy heavy engineering environment, you will operate automated shot blasting equipment, ensuring all materials are processed to the required quality standards while maintaining excellent levels of safety, productivity and attention to detail.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in structural steel, fabrication, manufacturing or heavy engineering who is looking for a long-term position with a progressive business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operating and monitoring automated shot blasting machinery.

  • Preparing structural steel sections including beams, columns, plates and fabricated assemblies.

  • Adjusting machine settings to suit different materials and customer requirements.

  • Loading and unloading steelwork using overhead cranes and approved lifting equipment.

  • Inspecting materials before and after blasting to ensure required surface preparation standards are achieved.

  • Identifying defects, contamination or quality issues and reporting them appropriately.

  • Carrying out routine equipment checks and basic maintenance tasks.

  • Completing production records and ensuring accurate material traceability.

  • Maintaining a safe, clean and organised working environment.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is reliable, hardworking and takes pride in producing high-quality work.

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working within a manufacturing, engineering or industrial environment.

  • Experience operating machinery in a production setting.

  • A good understanding of safe working practices and manual handling procedures.

  • Basic mechanical knowledge with the ability to carry out routine equipment checks.

  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.

  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Experience in the following would be advantageous:

  • Shot blasting or surface preparation.

  • Structural steel fabrication or heavy engineering.

  • Automated blasting systems.

  • Protective coatings, painting or galvanising preparation.

  • Overhead crane operation.

  • Forklift truck operation.
