The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Track Systems Technician to join the Track Systems team. This role is suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced, live environment and enjoys working with complex technical systems on a global stage.
Key Responsibilities
- Install timing loops, beacons, and track temperature sensors within track surfaces, involving hands-on manual work such as digging, soldering, and use of machinery and tools (full health and safety training provided).
- Install, test, terminate, and maintain coaxial and multi-core twisted pair data cables used for system communications.
- Configure and maintain timing data acquisition systems and associated hardware.
- Carry out fault diagnosis on basic IT networks and cable infrastructure.
- Produce and maintain fault logs and technical reports.
- Work outdoors in a variety of climates and international locations.
- Ensure all departmental tools and equipment are used correctly, maintained, and transported between events.
- Terminate motorsport-grade connectors and build or repair basic wiring looms for testing and operational use.
- Interpret and work from detailed circuit drawings to ensure correct system setup.
- Commission hardware and software systems, including diagnostics and repairs.
- Monitor incoming and outgoing system data to confirm correct operation and escalate issues where required.
- Plan system installations and liaise with internal teams and external partners to meet stakeholder requirements.
- Communicate with system users and stakeholders via internal liaison platforms.
- Maintain equipment inventories and ensure sufficient spares are available through tracking repairs and faults.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience fault-finding electrical and electronic wiring systems.
- Ability to read and work from wiring diagrams and technical drawings.
- Experience producing clear and accurate technical reports.
- Basic understanding of TCP/IP networking.
- Working knowledge of CAN protocols and vehicle-based electronic systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
- Comfortable working under pressure in a live, broadcast-style environment.
- Willingness to travel internationally for extended periods (typically 1-3 weeks).
- Full UK or EU driving licence.
