We are currently recruiting for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a major construction project in Mons, Belgium.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a commercially focused Quantity Surveyor to take responsibility for the financial and contractual management of key project packages within a large-scale, complex construction environment.
You will work closely with the construction and commercial teams, managing subcontractor accounts, variations, valuations, forecasting, cost control and contractual matters. The role will also involve regular interaction with clients, contractors and other project stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years' Quantity Surveying experience, a strong understanding of construction contracts and a working knowledge of Mechanical and Electrical packages.
The Role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing the commercial and contractual aspects of assigned project packages.
- Preparing and reviewing subcontract documentation.
- Pricing Mechanical and Electrical tenders where required.
- Measuring and pricing variations and changes.
- Preparing monthly interim applications for payment.
- Issuing contractual notices and supporting loss and expense, acceleration and other claims.
- Preparing accurate, competitive and commercially robust estimates.
- Measuring site progress, productivity and physical quantities on a regular basis.
- Managing and financially controlling subcontractor accounts.
- Preparing turnover, cost and cashflow forecasts.
- Reviewing project cost plans to ensure target margins and contributions are maintained.
- Monitoring project performance and identifying commercial risks and trends.
- Managing and forecasting cashflow for your assigned packages.
- Maintaining accurate commercial records and a clear audit trail to support payments and claims.
- Working closely with clients, contractors, subcontractors and internal teams.
- Supporting junior Quantity Surveyors and contributing to their development.
- Identifying opportunities to improve commercial processes and implement best practice.
About You
We are looking for a commercially driven Quantity Surveyor who is confident managing the financial and contractual aspects of construction projects.
Essential Requirements
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- 3-5 years' experience in a Quantity Surveying position.
- Strong understanding of construction contracts.
- Working knowledge of Mechanical and Electrical work packages.
- Experience with subcontractor accounts and commercial management.
- Experience with variations, valuations and payment applications.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Confident negotiating with clients and contractors.
- Excellent Excel skills.
- Strong problem-solving ability.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider project team.
Desirable
- Previous data centre or mission-critical construction experience.
- M&E construction experience.
- Experience working on major international projects.
- Experience managing large subcontractor packages.
- Knowledge of contractual claims, loss and expense and acceleration.
- Experience with project cost reporting and cashflow forecasting.
