We are seeking an experienced Project QC Engineer to join a major data centre project in Milan, Italy.
This is a site-based quality role with responsibility for managing and coordinating quality control activities throughout construction, testing, commissioning and handover.
You will take ownership of QC deliverables including inspections, Inspection & Test Plans, test packs, walkdowns, snag management and quality reporting, ensuring project requirements are consistently met and all documentation is complete, accurate and fully traceable for final handover.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary project team, you will collaborate closely with construction, engineering, commissioning, BIM, EHS, supply chain and client teams.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Management
- Promote a strong right-first-time quality culture across the project.
- Ensure QC activities are carried out in accordance with project specifications, procedures and applicable standards.
- Support the development and implementation of project-specific quality procedures and method statements.
- Collaborate with construction, engineering, commissioning, planning, EHS, procurement, supply chain and project teams.
- Identify, record and drive quality issues through to effective close-out.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective action processes where required.
Inspection & Test Plans
- Develop, review and maintain Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and inspection checklists.
- Coordinate inspection requirements with construction and engineering teams.
- Track ITP approvals and ensure inspections are aligned with the construction programme.
- Monitor inspection status and identify potential delays or quality risks.
- Ensure inspection and testing records are accurately completed, reviewed and maintained.
- Coordinate inspection notifications and ensure relevant stakeholders are available when required.
Test Packs & Handover
- Develop and maintain test pack registers in conjunction with project stakeholders.
- Define system boundaries and limits for individual test packs.
- Coordinate the compilation, review and completion of test packs.
- Prepare quality documentation for walkdowns, testing, commissioning and final handover.
- Ensure quality records, certificates and inspection documentation are complete and traceable.
- Support the project team in achieving a structured and efficient handover.
- Track outstanding documentation and actions through to completion.
Walkdowns & Snag Management
- Plan and coordinate quality walkdowns using project lookahead programmes.
- Manage W1, W2 and W3 walkdown notifications and turnover activities.
- Lead internal and third-party quality walkdowns.
- Conduct pre-test inspections using drawings, schematics, SLDs and P&IDs.
- Record, categorise and track defects, snags and outstanding works.
- Work closely with construction and subcontractor teams to drive timely close-out.
- Monitor planned versus actual walkdown and close-out performance.
- Provide regular updates on outstanding quality actions and project readiness.
Welding & Fabrication Quality
- Monitor weld traceability and associated quality documentation.
- Maintain weld logs and monitor welder qualifications and certification.
- Coordinate visual inspections and NDT requirements.
- Ensure heat maps, inspection records and relevant certification are maintained.
- Identify quality trends and escalate recurring issues where appropriate.
- Verify that fabrication and installation activities meet project quality requirements.
BIM, Data & Reporting
- Work closely with the BIM team to ensure accurate field data and project attributes.
- Maintain data integrity within BIM 360 / Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) and other project systems.
- Ensure quality issues are correctly categorised, assigned, tracked and closed.
- Support the implementation of equipment and asset tagging systems, including QR code tracking.
- Monitor quality dashboards and reporting systems.
- Track key quality KPIs and provide accurate progress reporting to project management.
- Support supply chain quality performance monitoring and corrective action plans.
- Ensure project quality records remain accurate and up to date.
Commissioning & Compliance
- Coordinate closely with commissioning teams to align QC activities with L3-L5 commissioning requirements.
- Support system turnover and commissioning readiness.
- Monitor calibration and certification of inspection, measuring and test equipment.
- Ensure equipment and asset tagging requirements are maintained.
- Coordinate required inspections and certification for handover.
- Support project requirements relating to BCAR, LEED and BREEAM, where applicable.
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action processes.
- Support lessons-learned activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a QC Engineer, Quality Engineer or Quality Inspector on major construction projects.
- Experience working on data centre, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, industrial or other regulated/mission-critical projects.
- Strong understanding of ITPs, inspections, test packs, walkdowns, snagging and handover processes.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, SLDs and P&IDs.
- Experience managing quality documentation and project records.
- Good understanding of construction and commissioning processes.
- Experience working with digital quality management and reporting systems.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary project teams.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Proactive approach to identifying and resolving quality issues.
- Relevant engineering, construction or quality-related qualification is desirable.
