We are seeking an experienced and driven Production Process Planner to join a team within a dynamic structural steel manufacturing environment. This is a key role responsible for developing and maintaining effective production schedules, ensuring fabrication activities are delivered efficiently, on time, and to the highest standards.
Working closely with Design, Procurement, and Operations teams, you will play a central role in coordinating materials, labour, and plant resources to optimise workflow, maximise capacity, and support successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, monitor, and maintain the production programme alongside the Production Director and Sub-contract Fabrication Manager
- Schedule new contracts and adjust existing programmes to reflect project requirements
- Review Tekla Structures models to assess fabrication hours and set efficiency targets
- Analyse tender data to allocate labour budgets across production activities
- Assist in reviewing sub-contract fabrication budgets and quotations
- Coordinate pre-fabrication processes including plate work, box girder carcasses, machined items, and jigs
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through sub-assembly strategies and better resource utilisation
- Liaise with Design and Drawing Office teams to support "design for manufacture" and resolve complex fabrication challenges
- Support QS and Estimating teams with fabrication time data, cost variations, and performance tracking
- Maintain and update efficiency metrics, including the Master Efficiency document
- Coordinate with group companies and sub-contractors as required
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in production planning and scheduling within a manufacturing or construction environment
- Strong technical understanding of structural steel fabrication
- Experience in cost control, budgeting, and sub-contract coordination
- Ability to monitor performance and drive continuous improvement
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills across multiple departments
- Proactive problem-solver with the ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines
Qualifications
- Background in construction, ideally within structural steelwork
- Fabrication or technical experience highly desirable
- Experience with Tekla Structures is advantageous (training can be provided)
- NVQ in Fabrication & Welding or a related qualification is desirable
