Defence & Military Systems

Inovative engineering that protects lives.

We are seeking a Principal Electronics Engineer to provide technical leadership across land and maritime defence programmes, shaping electronics that support surveillance, fire control, ground‑based air defence (GBAD), and Counter‑UAS systems operating in the most demanding operational environments.

This is a senior, hands‑on role for an engineer who wants their expertise to directly influence important military capability, whilst mentoring others to the highest engineering standards.

What you'll be working on

You will help lead the development and evolution of advanced defence systems, including:

  • Surveillance, targeting, and tracking systems for land environments
  • Fire control and electro‑optical systems, supporting precision engagement at sea
  • Counter‑UAS architectures, integrating sensors, power systems, control electronics and processing
  • Complex EO, radar‑adjacent, power management, and control electronics designed to operate reliably in harsh, EMC‑challenged military environments

You will act as a technical authority, setting best practice across electronics and electrical engineering within a 15‑strong engineering team, while leading high‑profile defence projects from concept to in‑service support.

Your role

  • Define, review, and own system‑level electrical and electronic architectures
  • Lead circuit design, PCB development, power management, and signal integrity
  • Drive R&D and future technology development for next‑generation defence systems
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to engineers across disciplines
  • Engage with senior management, defence primes, and end customers during delivery and bid activities

What you bring

  • 10+ years' experience in electronics or electrical engineering
  • Strong background in defence, aerospace, or highly regulated environments
  • Proven expertise in PCB‑level design, EMC, power systems, and fault investigation
  • Demonstrable leadership of complex, multidisciplinary engineering programmes
  • A mindset focused on resilience, reliability, and mission success

Why join?

  • Work on real, deployed military systems, not theoretical designs
  • 37.5 hour working week with Friday lunchtime finishes
  • 28 days annual leave + Christmas closure
  • Pension, well being, and reward schemes
  • Excellent learning and development opportunities in advanced defence technology

Security Clearance Required
Candidates must be eligible for UK Security Clearance, including UK residency for the last five years.

If you want your engineering to have real operational impact, this is your opportunity to lead from the front.
