Network Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Network Design Engineer / Team Leader to provide technical leadership and deliver network architecture and telecommunications solutions across complex railway and safety-critical projects.
The role will focus on the design and delivery of data networks supporting station systems, SCADA, signalling and backbone communications, working closely with customers, project teams, systems engineers and delivery partners.

Key Responsibilities

• 
  Lead the technical delivery of network architectures and designs across railway projects.
• 
  Design and review LAN/WAN, industrial Ethernet, SCADA and station system networks, including CCTV, voice and passenger information systems.
• 
  Produce network architecture documents, diagrams, IP addressing/subnetting plans, cable schedules, diversity plans and configurations.
• 
  Develop secure network solutions, including firewalls, DMZs, IPsec, authentication and network security architectures.
• 
  Gather customer requirements and develop technical proposals and solutions.
• 
  Develop test specifications and support onsite build, integration and system testing.
• 
  Ensure designs meet required quality, security and safety standards and are delivered to programme.
• 
  Present technical solutions to customers and project stakeholders.
• 
  Provide technical leadership, mentoring and support to network engineers and junior team members.

Essential Experience

• 
  Degree or equivalent experience in an engineering, technical or numerate discipline.
• 
  CCNP level or equivalent practical experience.
• 
  Strong experience in LAN/WAN architecture, network security and industrial networking.
• 
  Experience with SISS/station systems, SCADA and control networks within safety-critical environments.
• 
  Knowledge of the systems engineering lifecycle.
• 
  Experience working within the rail industry, ideally across operational telecommunications, signalling or related systems.
• 
  Understanding of relevant railway standards, processes and safety/quality requirements.
• 
  Strong communication, stakeholder management and technical leadership skills.
• 
  Experience with DDaT Config Checker and network configuration/design assurance.

Desirable Experience

• 
  Chartered Engineer status or IRSE licence.
• 
  Experience with Software Defined Networking (SDN), virtualisation, data centres or network automation.
• 
  Experience with next-generation firewalls, SIEM, IAM or threat intelligence.
• 
  Experience with Juniper networking technologies.
• 
  Experience designing and securing industrial control systems, including industrial Ethernet switches, routers and firewalls.
• 
  Experience with DMZ, IPsec, EAP-TLS and authentication servers.
• 
  Experience delivering proof-of-concept (PoC) network solutions.
