Are you an experienced Mechanical Design Manager with a passion for leading high-performing engineering teams? We are seeking a Mechanical Design Manager to lead the delivery of innovative mechanical solutions within a fast-paced, high-performance engineering environment.
Reporting into the Head of Mechanical Engineering & Design, you will lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for the design, development and delivery of bespoke mechanical systems, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of Mechanical Design Engineers, providing technical guidance, mentoring and day-to-day support.
- Take ownership of the full product development lifecycle, from concept and requirements capture through to testing, deployment and ongoing support.
- Ensure engineering projects are delivered on schedule, within budget and aligned with business objectives.
- Lead technical decision-making across multiple engineering projects, ensuring robust and innovative design solutions.
- Plan resources, allocate workloads and support the professional development of the engineering team.
- Research and evaluate new technologies, materials and manufacturing processes to support future product development.
- Manage engineering budgets, forecasting and project planning activities.
- Work closely with suppliers, manufacturers and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
- Provide regular project updates and technical reporting to senior management.
About You
We're looking for an experienced engineering leader with strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills and a proven ability to manage teams and deliver complex engineering projects.
You'll ideally have:
- A qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or a related engineering discipline.
- Previous experience managing and developing a mechanical design team.
- A strong background in mechanical design using CAD, CAE and FEA tools.
- Experience delivering mechanical systems from concept through to testing and deployment.
- Excellent knowledge of PTC Creo and Windchill/PDMLink.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including CNC machining, fabrication, composites and plastics.
- Knowledge of BS8888 engineering drawing standards.
- Excellent planning, organisational and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable Skills
- Experience managing engineering budgets and project forecasting.
- Experience leading large-scale, high-value engineering projects.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with the IMechE or equivalent.
- Experience working with suppliers, contractors and external engineering partners.
- Strong understanding of materials including aluminium, plastics and composite materials.
