An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading defence engineering organisation working on advanced military vehicle platforms. This role is perfect for someone with strong experience in the defence sector, particularly within the design and development of Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFVs) and associated systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop robust and innovative mechanical designs based on requirements specifications and design briefs.

  • Create detailed 3D models and drawings using CREO Parametric CAD.

  • Produce supporting engineering calculations and perform basic structural and kinematic analysis.

  • Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts, users, and design authorities to develop complex mechanisms and sub-system solutions.

  • Support the development of design documentation, design reviews, and the creation of full data packs using Windchill PDM.

  • Assist in the production and testing of prototypes to validate and verify design concepts.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry, safety, and programme-specific standards and legislation.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Extensive experience in the defence sector, specifically working on AFVs and related systems (e.g., Survivability, Lethality, Structures, Communications, Sensors).

  • Strong background in mechanical subsystem/component design.

  • Expert-level proficiency in CREO Parametric CAD and Windchill PDM.

  • Deep understanding of complex mechanical mechanisms.

  • Experience with materials (armoured and non-armoured), treatments, and finishing techniques suitable for military environments.

  • High attention to detail with excellent documentation and reporting skills.

  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in fast-paced, cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in aerospace or military application design.

  • Working knowledge of relevant defence standards and compliance frameworks.

  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
