This is a senior position with genuine ownership of the mechanical commissioning process. You will be responsible for ensuring systems are commissioned in the correct sequence, fully documented, tested to the required standards and successfully handed over to the client.

The project is large-scale, technically complex and highly coordinated, making this an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in a demanding environment where strong commissioning leadership directly impacts project success.

The Role

You will take responsibility for:

  • Establishing system boundaries, commissioning sequences and delivery milestones.
  • Reviewing descriptions of operation, setpoints, test packs, checklists and commissioning scripts.
  • Managing and coordinating specialist commissioning vendors.
  • Witnessing and verifying commissioning activities.
  • Leading walkdowns, tag walks and system sign-off.
  • Managing commissioning trackers, logs and weekly progress reporting.
  • Identifying commissioning risks and implementing appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Managing snag lists and driving outstanding issues through to completion.
  • Ensuring all commissioning documentation is accurate, complete and compliant with client requirements.
  • Coordinating client training and ensuring all required activities are completed on schedule.
  • Working closely with the Project Manager and Quantity Surveyor on commissioning-related costs and potential variations.
  • Providing early warning of technical, commercial and programme risks.
  • Mentoring junior engineers and supporting the development of the wider commissioning team.

About You

We are looking for a technically strong mechanical commissioning professional with proven experience leading commissioning activities on major construction or engineering projects.

You will ideally have:

  • Significant mechanical commissioning experience at a senior or lead level.
  • Strong mechanical engineering knowledge and practical commissioning experience.
  • Proven experience managing commissioning from planning through to handover.
  • Experience coordinating specialist contractors, vendors and multiple project stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of system completion, testing, commissioning and handover processes.
  • Experience with IFC drawings, technical specifications and commissioning documentation.
  • Experience developing commissioning plans, sequences and test procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of test packs, checklists, scripts, system boundaries and sign-off processes.
  • Experience managing commissioning trackers, progress reports and snag lists.
  • Good commercial awareness, including experience identifying potential variations and cost impacts.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to identify risks early and communicate their potential impact on programme and delivery.
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure within strict project deadlines.

Experience within data centres, mission-critical environments, pharmaceutical, life sciences, advanced manufacturing or other technically complex projects would be highly advantageous.
