we are looking for experienced Platers / Fabricators to join a major long-term defence project.

This is high-impact, heavy-industry work at the forefront of UK shipbuilding. You'll be part of an established fabrication team, building and shaping large, complex steel structures.

Salary: £38,622 + up to 33% shift allowance + overtime
Shift Patterns: Mon-Thurs days or nights, or a 3-day compressed weekend shift (Fri-Sun)

Responsibilities:

  • Heavy fabrication and plating of structural steel sections.

  • Forming, cutting, burning, and shaping plate to tight tolerances using heavy workshop equipment.

  • Assembling, aligning, and tack-welding structural units, bulkheads, foundations, and outfitting components.

  • Reading and working from complex technical and fabrication drawings.

  • Fitting a variety of ship structures, including bulkheads, deck structures, penetrations, supports, and access systems.

  • Using oxy-acetylene cutting gear, grinders, plasma equipment, and other fabrication tools safely and effectively.

  • Ensuring all work meets strict defence, safety, and quality standards.

What you'll bring:

  • Recognised Trade Papers/ Modern Apprenticeship Certificate essential (L3 SVQ/NVQ or L3 C&G)

  • Strong background in heavy fabrication, shipbuilding, offshore, oil & gas, or large-scale industrial engineering.

  • Solid knowledge of SHE, COSHH, and general site safety regulations.

  • Comfortable working in confined spaces, at height, and in a busy industrial environment.

  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and pride in delivering high-quality fabrication work.

Security requirements:
All applicants must have lived in the UK for the past 3 years minimum and be willing to undergo Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) screening.
