Coded Welder - Scotland

The Coded Welder is responsible for carrying out high-quality structural welding on offshore sheet piling works using Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW/Stick), processes. All welding shall be completed in accordance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), project requirements, and applicable industry standards while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform structural welding on structural steel, combi walls, waling beams, brackets, tie bars, capping beams, and associated structural steel components.
  • Carry out welding using Flux Core (FCAW), Stick (SMAW), and MIG (GMAW) processes as specified by the project.
  • Weld in accordance with approved WPS, engineering drawings, weld symbols, and fabrication specifications.
  • Maintain valid coded welder qualifications for the required welding processes and positions.
  • Ensure all welds meet project quality standards and successfully pass visual inspection and NDT where applicable.
  • Prepare, fit-up, clean, and inspect materials before, during, and after welding.
  • Operate welding equipment safely and carry out routine inspections and maintenance.
  • Work closely with supervisors, inspectors, and other trades to achieve programme targets.
  • Comply with offshore permit-to-work systems, toolbox talks, risk assessments, and method statements.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards within the work area.
  • Report equipment defects, quality concerns, or safety hazards immediately.
  • Assist with fabrication and installation activities as required.
