We are currently recruiting for an experienced Assurance Field Engineer to join a major engineering and infrastructure programme in London.
This site-based role will be responsible for the inspection, verification and assurance of MEP installations, ensuring that works are delivered in accordance with approved designs, project specifications, quality requirements and relevant industry standards.
You will play an important role in ensuring that materials, installations, inspection records and supporting certification are fully compliant, accurately documented and available to support progressive assurance and final handover.
The role will involve carrying out material inspections, completing digital inspection and test documentation, producing inspection records and verifying installed works against drawings and acceptance criteria.
A key part of the position will also be taking ownership of snagging activities, ensuring defects and outstanding items are identified, tracked and driven through to completion.
Working closely with construction teams, engineers, quality personnel and wider project stakeholders, you will help ensure works are delivered right first time, with clear and auditable evidence of compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Materials Inspection & Control
- Inspect materials and equipment upon delivery to ensure compliance with approved specifications and documentation.
- Verify materials are correctly labelled, identifiable and fully traceable.
- Check the condition of materials on delivery and identify any damage, defects or potential non-conformances.
- Ensure appropriate certification and supporting documentation is available.
- Work with logistics, construction and quality teams to resolve material-related issues.
Inspection & Test Plans
- Complete and maintain digital Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) check sheets.
- Ensure inspection and testing activities are accurately recorded against approved requirements.
- Ensure hold points and witness points are appropriately managed.
- Carry out inspections at the required stages of construction.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date visibility of inspection status across assigned work areas.
Inspection & Test Records
- Prepare and author Inspection & Test Records in accordance with approved ITPs and project requirements.
- Undertake inspections of mechanical and MEP installations.
- Ensure inspection records are accurate, complete and supported by appropriate evidence.
- Verify installed works against drawings, specifications, approved documentation and acceptance criteria.
- Identify and escalate any deviations or areas of non-compliance.
Installed Works Assurance
- Undertake regular assurance inspections of installed works across site.
- Verify installations meet design, quality and applicable safety requirements.
- Identify, record and report defects, non-conformances and deviations.
- Work collaboratively with construction and engineering teams to resolve issues.
- Provide assurance that completed works meet the required standards before progressing through the project lifecycle.
Snagging & Defect Management
- Take ownership of the identification, recording and monitoring of snagging items.
- Ensure defects and outstanding works are accurately documented and tracked.
- Work with construction teams to drive timely resolution and close-out.
- Monitor outstanding items through to completion.
- Support project readiness for completion, testing, commissioning and handover.
Assurance & Handover Documentation
- Support the compilation of assurance documentation and quality/system records packs.
- Ensure inspection, testing and certification evidence is accurately recorded and appropriately stored.
- Maintain clear and traceable quality records throughout the works.
- Contribute to progressive assurance and the preparation of final handover documentation.
- Identify missing or incomplete evidence and support timely close-out.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Develop effective working relationships with construction teams, engineers, QA/QC personnel and client representatives.
- Coordinate assurance activities across multiple work fronts.
- Participate in site inspections, assurance reviews and progress meetings.
- Communicate quality and assurance issues clearly and ensure appropriate follow-up actions are taken.
Continuous Improvement
- Support the effective integration of inspection and assurance activities within construction delivery.
- Contribute to improving quality and assurance processes.
- Identify recurring issues and support the implementation of corrective actions.
- Assist with improving digital workflows and documentation processes.
- Promote a proactive, right-first-time approach to quality and assurance.
About You
We are looking for a technically capable and detail-focused engineer or construction professional with practical experience in mechanical installation, inspection or field-based assurance.
You will be comfortable working on active construction sites and have the confidence to inspect installed works, challenge non-compliant activities and work collaboratively with delivery teams to resolve issues.
The ideal candidate will combine strong technical knowledge with excellent record-keeping and communication skills, ensuring that quality and assurance requirements are maintained throughout the project.
Essential Qualifications & Knowledge
- Relevant mechanical or electrical installation qualification, such as NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of Inspection and Test Plans and inspection/test records.
- Practical experience in MEP installation inspection and site-based assurance.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
- Experience using digital inspection or quality management systems.
- Good working knowledge of construction and engineering practices.
- Understanding of quality assurance and inspection processes.
Desirable Qualifications & Knowledge
- HNC/HND in Engineering or a related discipline.
- QA/QC or inspection-related qualifications or certifications.
- Experience with formal quality management and certification processes.
- Knowledge of system/quality records and handover documentation.
- Experience working on major infrastructure, rail or similarly complex projects.
- Understanding of MEP systems, interfaces and associated construction activities.
Experience Required
Essential
- Demonstrable experience in mechanical installation, inspection and/or field assurance.
- Experience undertaking inspection, testing and quality verification within construction or engineering projects.
- Experience producing and maintaining inspection records and assurance documentation.
- Experience identifying defects, non-conformances and installation issues.
- Experience working collaboratively with construction and engineering teams.
Desirable
- Previous experience in a similar role on a major infrastructure, rail or engineering programme.
- Experience supporting completions, commissioning and handover activities.
- Experience working within a structured quality or assurance framework.
- Experience working for a major contractor or within a complex multi-stakeholder project environment.
- Previous experience with digital quality and inspection platforms.
