Edinburgh Glasgow Improvement Programme

The Edinburgh Glasgow Improvement Programme (EGIP) is a £742 million package of improvements to Scotland's railway infrastructure. A Scottish Government priority, the EGIP is being delivered by Network Rail and includes modernisation and upgrades to key junctions and infrastructure as well as widespread electrification of the Scottish rail network, including the main line between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Due to its comprehensive experience in providing talent for this type of works, Mane was contracted to supply professionals for Eastfield Depot, a key hub along the route, which required extensive work. The site was being modernised to add more loops and sidings and increased stabling capacity as well as electrification to facilitate the management of the new fleet of electric trains.

From a recruitment perspective, this was largely a civils contract, with Mane brought on board by existing client, Morgan Sindall, to manage myriad roles including ground workers, shuttering carpenters, concrete workers, logistics staff, and skilled trades. The work was carried out during 2018.

The project required Mane to source talent locally from across Scotland’s central belt; the volume of specialist skills needed meant that Mane had to further extend its already impressive talent reach by engaging with fresh candidate pools. Mane takes a proactive approach to creating talent pipelines in hard to reach regions and worked closely with the client pre-tender and pre-construction to ensure that it was able to deliver successfully for the project.
