Mane are looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor with a background in Steel to join their client, a leading construction company with exciting projects across the UK.

You will be based out of their location in Northampton.

Key Responsibilities

  • Tender and Contract Management

  • Prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities with the architect and/or client.
  • Advise on procurement strategy.
  • Prepare and analyse costings for tenders.
  • Allocate work to subcontractors.
  • Prepare and submit final accounts.

  • Cost Analysis and Feasibility

  • Undertake cost analysis for repair and maintenance projects.
  • Assist in establishing client requirements and conducting feasibility studies.
  • Perform risk and value management as well as cost control.
  • Commercial Risk and Valuation

  • Identify, analyse, and develop responses to commercial risks.
  • Provide advice on contractual claims.
  • Value completed work and arrange payments.
  • Project Cost Estimation

  • Work with the commercial team to estimate materials, plant, and equipment costs.
  • Collaborate with the construction team to predict project timescales and associated costs.
  • Conduct feasibility and cost planning, procurement advice, and tender documentation.
  • Contract Administration

  • Maintain awareness of current building contracts and health & safety regulations.
  • Arrange payments to suppliers and contractors.
  • Monitor CVIs, RFIs, and site instructions, and liaise with the project manager regarding variations.
  • Team Leadership and Development

  • Provide oversight and direction to team members in line with organisational policies.
  • Ensure appraisals are carried out within the specified timeframe and provide performance feedback.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop staff, including onboarding new employees and career development planning.
  • Collaboration and Workforce Planning

  • Collaborate with Human Resources for recruitment, onboarding, and training.
  • Maintain workforce planning schedules, including managing absences, sickness, holidays, and training.
  • Meetings and Reporting

  • AttendCVR meetings as required and produce final cost-to-completion forecasts.

    Essential and Desirable Qualifications

    • Qualifications

    • Relevant HND/Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent practical experience.
    • Further qualifications, such as membership in the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or MRICS, are desirable but not essential.
    • Additional qualifications, such as BTEC in Building Studies, Building Engineering, or Building Management, are welcome.
  • Certifications

  • RelevantCSCS Card (Experienced Technical Supervisor, Supervisory, Professionally Qualified Person, or Manager) is welcome but not essential.

    Skills and Experience

    • Relevant on-the-job project experience is considered equally valid as formal qualifications.
    • Feasibility and cost planning, procurement advice, tender documentation, and post-contract services expertise.
    • In-depth understanding of commercial risks and cost control.
    • Awareness of health & safety regulations and building contracts.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring abilities.
  • Effective communication and performance feedback delivery.
  • Proficient in workforce planning and collaboration with HR for recruitment and onboarding.
