Electrical Design Engineer
- £40000 - £45000 per annum
- England
- Engineering & Manufacturing
Our client is a leading name in industrial automation, specialising in robotics and aerospace solutions. Based in the scenic town of Dorchester, they have built a strong reputation for delivering cutting-edge, state-of-the-art solutions to prominent industry leaders and household names. They are known for tackling complex industrial and engineering challenges with innovative and efficient solutions.
The Opportunity
We are assisting our client during a period of significant growth in their search for a talented Electrical Design Engineer. This role is crucial to the continued success and expansion of their dynamic team, focusing on the development of advanced electrical solutions for robotic and electromechanical systems used in factory and process automation.
The Role
The selected candidate will play a key role in designing and developing electrical systems, with a particular focus on industrial control cabinets and other essential automation components. The position requires close collaboration across various departments to deliver safe and effective solutions that meet client needs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Utilising EPLAN or similar electrical design software to create electrical solutions.
- Developing detailed 2D electrical panel layouts and electrical schematics.
- Occasionally engaging in hands-on activities, such as fault-finding and problem-solving in the workshop.
The role demands excellent communication skills to effectively interact with both internal and external stakeholders, as well as to maintain comprehensive technical documentation. The position involves travel to client sites across the UK, particularly in the defence and aerospace sectors, so candidates must be UK citizens.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for individuals with:
- A degree, HND, or HNC in electrical engineering or equivalent qualifications/experience.
- Previous experience in an electrical design role, with a strong ability to create electrical schematics and panel layouts.
- Excellent time management and prioritisation skills, capable of working independently to meet project milestones.
- A keen interest in learning new technologies and strong problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- ISO13849 knowledge - this is the industrial machinery safety standard - it has a heavy influence in a lot of the work we do and covers things like emergency stop systems. There are courses you can do relating to this, which are always good, but equally hands on experience is just as good if not better! - in my experience, this simply doesn't translate across to marine engineering.
- BS EN 60204 - electrical equipment - general requirements and between the two of them they are the standards that we use most of the time. I think anyone who has worked in an environment where they have designed industrial machinery should have a pretty good working knowledge of these two standards.
- A valid UK driving license.
